Conscious breathing: finding yourself at your core
What if your breath could bring you back to what really matters?
Behind the hustle and bustle, the racing thoughts, and the daily obligations, there is an inner space where peace and clarity await you.
I searched for this space outside myself for a long time, until conscious breathing guided me to it. In this article, I share how this practice can help you find yourself, calm your mind, and reconnect with your own presence.
When the outdoors is no longer enough
For years, I was caught up in the hustle and bustle of the outside world: always on the move, always searching for a more fulfilling place to be.
I moved house, changed jobs, constantly learned new things... as if standing still was dangerous.
But no matter where I went, that inner emptiness kept coming back.
A feeling of loss that nothing seemed to be able to fill.
I didn't know how to stop. I didn't know how to listen.
Why we avoid silence
I filled my schedule, my days, my thoughts. Silence frightened me. In my conversations, I dreaded those uncomfortable pauses and always sought to fill them.
I didn't realize that this commotion was an escape.
And in all this noise, I had stopped hearing what was essential:
The birds singing in the early morning
The kind and comforting words of my loved ones
And above all... my own inner voice
The day everything stopped
Then Covid arrived. The world slowed down, and so did I.
No more escape. No more overloaded schedule.
For the first time, I found myself alone with myself.
I felt this inner distance that I had masked for so long with noise and obligations.
I realized how much I was living in a state of urgency, unable to simply be.
Conscious breathing: a gateway to serenity
That's when conscious breathing came into my life.
Thanks to Transformational Breath®, I discovered a practice that:
Calms the mind
Releases tension in the body
Allows you to reconnect with your feelings
Opens up a space of deep serenity
By breathing deeply, letting each breath ground me, I returned to a state of being where I was no longer searching for anything—where I could simply be.
Observe the voice of the mind
We all have that inner voice: the one that comments, judges, anticipates, dwells on things...
It keeps our bodies and minds in a constant state of alert.
But that voice is not us.
Observing it without judgment is already a step toward inner peace.
And to calm it, there is a simple and powerful tool: conscious breathing.
A simple exercise to start with
Take a few minutes for yourself, right here, right now:
Close your eyes and take a deep breath through your nose.
Observe your body: tension? Relaxation?
Pay attention to your breathing: is it fluid or blocked?
Welcome your thoughts as passing clouds, without holding onto them.
Return to your breath, to that natural ebb and flow of air.
Repeat every day, even for just a few minutes, to create this inner space that becomes your refuge.
Serenity is found within you
Peace, clarity, and serenity are not found in a new job or some hypothetical elsewhere.
They arise from our ability to pause, listen, and feel.
Conscious breathing is a gateway to this inner space, where we find ourselves at the heart of our being.
